How to compress a photo

Limitations
Photos shrink the most — a phone JPG usually drops 3–10x with no visible difference. PNG screenshots and graphics do not compress that way: the format is lossless; pick WebP or JPG as the output for them. Below 50–60% quality artifacts become visible — the slider shows the percentage, you decide. iPhone HEIC is accepted via a dedicated decoder (loaded once).

Frequently asked questions
What does "without losing quality" mean?
No visible loss: at 75–85% JPG quality you cannot spot the difference on a phone or monitor, while the size drops several-fold. The pixels will not match byte for byte — that is the honest price of the savings.
Which quality should I pick for messengers?
75% and a 1600 px cap on the long side: a 4–8 MB phone photo becomes 300–600 KB with no visible change.
Why did my PNG barely shrink?
PNG stores pixels losslessly and has no quality setting. If you do not need transparency, output JPG; if you do, output WebP — it keeps transparency and weighs less.
Are photos uploaded anywhere?
